Sports Uniform

We take pride in our appearance at St George’s School.  At no time may uniform be mixed with mufti.  No jewellery is to be worn, except for a wristwatch.  No earrings may be worn.

Chapel Uniform – Number 1’s

Chapel uniform is required for students Year 2 to Year 8 for all formal occasions e.g. Chapel, visits outside school ie. to the Museum, hosting visiting schools, School formal photos etc.  Year 0-1 students are required to wear their full sports uniform for Chapel and formal occasions.

This includes blazer, tie, girls’ blouse or boys’ grey long sleeved shirt, shoes and socks. Jerseys are not to be worn under the blazer for such occasions.

Blazer and Tie

Are always worn to and from school, except in very hot weather the students may be instructed not to wear the blazer.  Blazers must have the St George’s crest on the pocket.

Jersey and Polar fleece

These additional layers are generally worn when students are in School. When it is very cold students may wear their jersey underneath the blazer. On formal occasions as stated the jersey is not worn under the blazer.

Sports Uniform Tracksuits

The tracksuit is worn for all sporting practices and competitions times. It can also be worn when students go on field trips. Staff will advise parents and caregivers when this sports uniform is needed.

Students must wear their sports jacket and their tracksuit pants for such events. Most students wear their school sports shorts underneath their trackpants, in readiness for the practice or game. If the weather is too hot for trackpants to be worn, parents, caregivers and students will be informed.

Additional Warmth

Parents and caregivers know their child best. Should your child need to wear a singlet or thermal type layer underneath the School or sports uniform this is of course permitted. It can get very cold during sports practices and games and so many students do wear these additional layers.

We have added a school branded beanie, scarf and polar fleece to the uniform in the cooler months. These items are optional. The beanie and scarf are worn when students are outside the classroom.

Layering clothes to suit the conditions is a life skill and staff will support your child with this as and when required. Should you have any questions on this please contact your child’s base class teacher.  Raincoats are essential for all students. These must be black or navy blue.

Earrings

A reminder that earrings are not part of our uniform as stated in the prep diary. This is for health and safety while the students are at play and co-curricular activities. Thank you for your support with this St George’s expectation.  If your child is capable of removing the ‘invisible style’ type of earrings for PE and School Sport then they may wear this type only. No other earrings are permitted. If there are cultural reasons then please email the Headmaster Headmaster@stgeorges.school.nz for consideration.

If you child is getting their ears pierced as a present e.g. Birthday or Christmas gift then please consider the long Summer break as this gives them time to heal before removing for the start of the School year.

Hair

The School’s expectation of hair is that it must:

  • be clean, neat and tidy.
  • be a natural single colour only.  Hair dye is not permitted during term time.
  • be tied back if long; hair bands and ribbons must be blue or black only.  Hair clips may be brown or black
  • not be worn too long i.e. must be off the collar, the ears and the eyebrows (when the hair is shaken forward).
  • not be an extreme style i.e. dreadlocks, multiple fine plaits etc.
  • not be too short i.e. no less than a “No. 3”.
  • not be shaved; head sections are not acceptable i.e. shelves.
  • not have wax, gels etc.
